After almost 39 weeks of waiting our baby boy has finally arrived. Sunday 11/16 at 5:20 am Cody James Riley was born - 5 lbs 19 inches. My original due date was 11/24 and my Dr had already decided to induce on 11/21 but Cody had other plans.
Everything checked out fine after our 12 hours and Cody was taken out of the incubator at about 8:00 Sunday night. Big sis was there ready and waiting to welcome him
After a couple of days at the hospital we were released to come home. Everyone is doing great and Caitlyn is really enjoying being a big sister!! She gets up every morning and comes home in the afternoons looking forward to holding her baby brother, and of course hes not lacking on all the hugs and kisses from her either
At my last checkup with the Dr on Friday 11/14, i still had not dilated at all so it looked as though the earliest we would see our son would be sometime on the 21st. Late Saturday night, around 10:30 pm i started having what i thought was just false labor pains. The pains would hit every 10 minutes and lasted about 10 - 15 seconds each time. After two hours of hurting Joey finally convinced me to head to the hospital. We checked in around 1:00 to find out what was really going on.
I still had not dilated anything so i had to stay couple of hours to monitor my contractions and the baby's heart rate and movement. The Dr's determined that every time i had a contraction the baby's heart rate was dropping but would recover to normal once the contraction had passed. Dr's decided to do an ultrasound to check several things with the baby and to measure amniotic fluid. Results came back that there was not very much fluid left around the baby.
Due to the fact that i still had not dilated any the Dr decided that inducing would be too dangerous for the baby. Contractions would only get stronger and last longer and would cause the baby's heart rate to drop and it may not recover. At 4:00 am Dr's decided to go ahead with a c-section. I was prepped and off to the or we went.
Joey and I were extremely nervous and scared but both extremely exhausted and ready to have this baby.
Everything went well with the c-section and Cody had finally arrived. He was checked out and everything was fine. Because he was only 5 lbs we were told that he would have to spend at least 12 hours in an incubator to make sure he could keep his body temp regulated.
Caitlyn was so excited to see her baby brother. We luckily got to have him in our room even though he was in the incubator. Caitlyn kept a close eye on him!
